Boston

2011 - 2014

The first phase of my creative practice that I am willing to publicly share was in Boston where I went to Emerson College for my Bachelor’s of Fine Arts degree in Media Production: Film. While most of my education was focused on film production, I was able to take a variety of classes that had a huge influence on my creative practice, including classes on contemporary literature, theatre, lighting design, and modern communication. I made some of my best friends at Emerson, who inspired and challenged me every day.

Fairy Tale (2014)

A young girl discovers in her local library a magical portal to a world where all her dreams come true. But as she journeys farther into the spell, she begins to sense danger in the fantasy realm.

My thesis film for my Bachelor of Fine Arts degree, which was heavily inspired by fairy tale films like Pan’s Labyrinth and Spirited Away. While I feel that this was not my best film creatively, it was one of the best experiences I had in directing and unifying a crew to make something together with creative input and inspiration from all.

My Sister (2013)

Kelly's writing time is interrupted by her younger sister, Andrea, who for some reason insists on having swing dance practice in their room.

This short film was made as my final project for a class on directing image and sound. Even though this only cost $75 and was made in two weeks, it is probably the best film I have ever made. Sometimes less really is more.

This is Gospel (2013)

A young woman stands on the cusp of her bright future, but her past keeps pulling her back into the darkness. An unofficial music video for Panic! at the Disco’s song “This is Gospel”.

Written by my best friend Erin, this was the first time I was able to solely focus on creative directing without worrying about writing or producing. At first I was very hesitant to take on a heavy subject matter like domestic and physical abuse, but in the end I am glad I did and that I found a way to represent it in a manner that was respectful and creative at the same time.

Weirdo Records (2013)

A short documentary exploring the community surrounding Weirdo Records, a music store in Cambridge, MA, that sells only "weird" music.

A documentary that surprised me in more ways than one. Accepted into the 2013 Ballston Spa Film Festival and the 2014 Salem Film Fest. Nominated in 2014 for Emerson College’s Evvy Award for Best Documentary

Select Photography (2012 - 2014)

2012 Developed Images Photo Gallery

2012 Developed Images Book Selection

2013 Developed Images Photo Book Selection

2014 Developed Images Photo Book Selection

During the course of my studies at Emerson, I wanted to improve my visual aesthetic and style, so I kept a small digital camera with me at all times to take photos throughout my day. Usually I would find one or two interesting shots to take per week, and some of these photos were selected for inclusion in the Emerson College photo journal Developed Images.
